Announcements - Book Discussion July 12, 2016
NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Cumberland, Harnett and Lee Counties will host its Annual Book Discussion on the book entitled Welcome to My Breakdown by Benilde Little, on July 12, 2016 from 6:00 p.m to 8:00 p.m. in the Charles W. Chesnutt Library, Third Floor Conference Room at Fayetteville State University. In 2008, the U.S. House of Representatives established July as Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month. This observance aims to improve acess to mental health treatment and services for multicultural communities through increased public awareness. Copies of the book have been provided by the organization for checkout at Chesnutt Library.
NAMI is the nation's largest grass roots organization on mental illness, often considered the voice on mental illness. Membership in NAMI automatically gives membership at the local, state, and national levels. They are a nonprofit dedicated to the improvement of the quality of life for all those whose lives are affected by brain disorders. They do this by educating, advocating, supporting, and offering information.

Friends of the Library
The Charles W. Chesnutt Library was pleased to revive the Friends of the Library (FOL) at the installation and reception held on Monday, October 26, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. in the Periodicals area on the first floor of the Library.
New Board members are: Mr. Julian Stackhaus, Dr. Sidney Brooks, Dr. Sandra Carr, Ms. Gloria Garner, Mr. Earl Jones, Mr. Al Kerr, Ms. Suzetta Perkins, Dr. Gregory Rich, Ms. Samantha Thompson, Ms. Eloise Vowotor, Professor Carole Boston Weatherford, and Ms. Linda Whitfield.
Ms. Cheryl Cloyd Robbins presented on her empowering and therapeutic children's book entitled Imani Hates the School Bus. All those in attendance were moved and encouraged to reach out to children, especially those who may be dealing with abuse.
Thanks to all who donated or obtained memberships at the reception. Memberships can be obtained at the Circulation Desk in the Library. Membershp fees are: Students $5.00; Regular $15.00; Family $25.00; Patron $50.00; Non-Profit Organization $250.00; Lifetime Membership $1,000.00 (may pay $200.00 a year for five years); Corporate $1,500.00. Delicious refreshments were provided by Aramark Catering Services.
